Ice2Thrust.Space is proud to spotlight Alexander Dimov, Antenna Engineer at EnduroSat, whose expertise in communication systems has been central to the company’s growth from its very first days.

Alexander has been part of EnduroSat since the company was founded, over eleven years ago — a tenure that has given him a front-row seat to one of the most remarkable journeys in European commercial space. Antennas and communication systems were EnduroSat’s original products, and Alexander has been there through every stage of what has grown into a company that now designs, builds, and launches entire satellites.

His role encompasses the complete lifecycle of antenna systems: from initial design and simulation through to final production and measurement. It is work that sits at the foundation of every space mission. Antenna systems serve as the critical link for all communication and data transmission, and the ability to send and receive data reliably across space underpins mission success — whether in Earth observation, telecommunications, or deep-space exploration. Today, the rapidly growing demand for high-speed, high-volume data transfer is the defining challenge driving innovation in antenna design, and it is a challenge Alexander meets every day.

His work is deeply rooted in his academic background. Alexander completed his PhD at the Technical University of Sofia, focusing on methods for designing passive microwave devices with defects in the ground plane — a technique known as Defected Ground Structure (DGS). By intentionally modifying the ground plane of a circuit board, this approach enhances the performance of passive microwave components, enabling the development of smaller, more efficient filters and other essential elements of RF and microwave systems.

What drives him is a passion for space and the opportunities it represents. For Alexander, establishing reliable communication links with systems operating in orbit is not just an engineering challenge — it is the essential thread connecting humanity to the data that helps us better understand the universe.
